Hallo, I am Sabine. I was born and grew up in Stuttgart, Germany.
For as long as I can think I was always fascinated by everything foreign. I loved traveling, exploring different countries and cultures, getting to know people and different ways of life.
In 1995, I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was exciting to completely immerse myself in another culture and experience the country and its people not just as a tourist, but as a new fellow resident.
Throughout my 8 years in Pittsburgh, I worked for international corporations with headquarters in Germany and Austria. I was able to use my training and background in business (Kauffrau im Groß- und Außenhandel as well as my English and German language skills on a daily basis. I especially enjoyed the exchange with my international colleagues in Europe and the United States.
In 2003, I relocated to the West Coast and settled in Seattle, Washington. After taking time off after my daughter was born, I decided to combine my love of languages and my previous work experience and I enrolled in a certificate program in English to German translation at the Translation and Interpretation Institute a Translation and Interpretation Institute at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington. When I was enrolled in the program, I had the opportunity to do an internship at German Language Services in West Seattle. GLS is a translation agency spezialising in English ↔ German translations. After completing the certificate program at Bellevue College in 2009, I started working as a freelance translator mainly translating pharmaceutical documentation for German Language Services and other private clients.
In 2016, I had the opportunity to teach my first German course for adults at Eastside German Language School in Bellevue, WA. I very much enjoyed teaching, planning lessons, and interactin with students. I started to focus on teaching adult students both in small group classes as well as private lessons while still occationally translating. Every student is unique, every class is different, and there are there are so many tools and resources available these days that make online class engaging and fun.
I love teaching but I also love learning from students. Everyone has a different background and everyone has an interesting story to tell.
