After a longer break due to corona, I traveled to Europe again this year for the first time in years. I travel more or less frequently to Zürich and Stuttgart (my hometown), but it has been a long time that I visited Vienna. I realized again what a beautiful city it is. It has a special flair and on top of it, I love listening to the Austrian accent. This year Vienna hosted the “Internationale Tagung der Deutschlehrerinnen und Deutschlehrer” (17th International Conference of Teachers of German) from August 15-20, 2022. The IDT is the world's largest conference for language teachers of German as a foreign and second language. The conference is attended by over 3000 participants from more than 120 countries. I had already planned my vacation when I found out that the conference is taking place in Vienna at the same time that I was there for vacation. So, I didn't attend any of the seminars and events because I hadn't registered for them, but I still took the opportunity to stroll through the beautiful campus of Universität Wien (University of Vienna). During lunch break, numerous vendors had set up their booths and information stands and of course I couldn't resist and ended up walking out with a pack of exciting new material for language teachers. It was great being able to stop by for a little bit and soak up the international atmosphere. People from all over the world coming together in Vienna to find out new developments and everything there is to know when it comes to teaching German as a foreign language. An finally, here are a few impressions from my travels this summer. Wien, Österreich |
